"It is special how bad he is" might be the funniest line I've read all year.

I will be bloody surprised if Isaiah Collier stays in the NBA. I am totally under whelmed by what I have seen so far. Hardy should have been giving Bryce Sensabaugh more minutes all along, I thought. I think he would have been contributing like his last two games, earlier in the season if he had the chance.

has your opinion on Cody Williams changed over the past few months? curious to hear your thoughts on him as a potential lottery pick

For sure. Looks like one of the few viable prospects in this draft with a real case for #1 overall.

Thanks for the insight.

You plan on doing a piece on him vs the other wing prospects? ie. Risacher, Holland, Buzelis etc.

I write whenever I’m in the mood for it so we’ll see. This class isn’t too inspirational.

Short version is Cody looks like he could be a bigger version of his brother Jalen, which is obviously more interesting than any of those other guys. Especially Buzi looks like a joke who doesnt belong. Holland and Risacher could be alright but feel meh.

Thoughts on Sarr?

Haven't watched him but on paper looks boring. Maybe a guy, but hard to imagine getting excited over him.

Reminds me of a Bigger Claxton with more perimeter juice. How useable will that be though? Idk, rather him be a better roll man & passer

Do you think Illinois' Terrence Shannon and Coleman Hawkins can stick in the NBA?

Who’s the worst player (pre draft, remove hindsight) from the last 3 drafts you think would clearly go #1 in this draft?

Expand full comment

I’d say all of the top 3 guys in the last 3 drafts go #1 this year, so probably scoot or jalen green depending on who you like less. They were in a similar tier in my eyes predraft.

There’s some chance a team would roll the dice on amen at #1 as well, which I think would be a horrible gamble based on predraft info. But based on early returns he seems more interesting than scoot + green

curious what kind of mold was Anthony Edwards at GA? I never looked at his numbers but he seemed like a high to, bulldozing type.

Ant has slighty more assist than turnovers, but much lower in both than Collier with similar scoring volume.

He was also 10 months younger, much better rebs, ripped almost 3x as many 3PA, better athlete. And even then he had to bigly overperform in NBA to be as good as he is.

It’s tough to find a flattering comp for Collier. Maybe Jordan Clarkson who went in round 2

Just how bad is this draft class at this stage? Right now you probably have Topic, Dillingham, and Sheppard as your top 3. Are any of them even going top 5/10 in a normal draft? Does the perceived weakness of this draft make you more likely to take a swing at Collier in the absence of better prospects?

My inkling is that Topic is a reasonable #1 choice in most years. He might not go top 10 in a normal year because GM's never get it right with euros, but he seems to have #1 overall caliber upside.

Other than that, I'm not sure anybody else is worthy of a normal top 10 pick. I love Dilly, but still have reservations if he is really good enough for his size. Sheppard is more interesting than most guys, but he still is just one on a number of guys you could argue at #3 with nobody else looking too appetizing.

In spite of this, I would never in a million years draft Collier. If him and Anthony Bennett were in the same draft, I would take Bennett higher than him. He will not necessarily flop as violently as Bennett, but look back at that draft which was rightfully considered weak at the top with Oladipo + Otto Porter Jr as the top 2 prospects.

There are still so many guys who turned out so much better than him. Forget the big hits like Giannis + Gobert. There is KCP, McCollum, Olynyk, and Adams in the lottery who are all solid pickups. MCW flamed out eventually, but at least showed early potential winning ROY.

Then later in the first round, you have Schroder, THJ, Dieng, Plumlee, Bullock, Andre Roberson, Tony Snell...not exactly world beaters, but guys who hung around the NBA as role players for far longer than Bennett could.

If Anthony Bennett never entered the 2013 draft, and everybody else went 1 slot higher, the draft would not be great but would look better in retrospect. That's how I feel about Collier. Draft is thin on star power, but there are still gonna be some alright NBA guys and I doubt he is one of them.

Collier has looked much better since coming back from injury - his AST:TO is ticking up although he still struggles shooting anything. Is he still drawing dead to being better than Topic? Both get to the rim a ton although in different ways; Topic with craft while Collier with strength, and both seem to be bad defenders. Do you still have Topic 1 and Collier undraftable or has that gap narrowed based on more recent play?

I dont think collier is dead to be better than topic. Its fair to have some doubts about Topic’s D and whether he will shoot enough to be decent off ball.

Topic is still top 5 IMO, not sure about 1. He doesn’t really stand out from the other flawed guys in the class

Collier looking less like a lock bust, but I doubt I can ever like him enough to rate him lotto even in this draft. Having a tough time seeing him being more than Jordan Clarkson type
